Chapter 121 - Race For Kills
"Such a eunuch he is," Byron shook his head as he denounced his boss. He even suspected that Lewis might be swinging in the wrong way.
But, Byron could not help but turn away from the public display of affection that Klautz was showcasing.
\'Just what did he did to turn two women like that? They don\'t seem to be resisting,\' Byron thought but he shrugged. \'No point in thinking. Not like I can ever achieve that.\'
Meanwhile, Klautz had pulled away leaving Verona with a blush on her face. But that didn\'t mean that she didn\'t stop her worries. She glanced back in the direction of the beast only to find that it was killed with no one standing around.
"Are you done, Selena?" Klautz asked.
"Oh yes! Sorry, I was kinda lost," she whimpered, lowering her head.
\'Cute,\' Klautz thought as he rubbed her head. He would have done more than just \'patting\'. But there was no time for these things, Klautz had other important stuff in mind.
Klautz and co. had already killed off four packs and they were looking for more to slaughter. The wave helps them to grow in strength. And the greater the strength that they could acquire the more their chances of surviving the subsequent waves.
The system hadn\'t mentioned anything but Klautz knew that the difficulty would increase with each consecutive wave.

Basile was another one of Lewis\'s men who he had sent to scout around for \'prey\'. And to his good luck, he indeed found someone rather he found two of them. He hid behind a tree as they watched their exchange. They didn\'t seem to be on good terms with each other.
Steve and another woman had come out of a battle against each other. The woman might be holding out good but was on the losing side and could barely move a muscle anymore.
Her body was bleeding from several injuries that Steve had delivered to her. Steve was in no good situation either. While he stood with no injuries his body was extremely exhausted from the two days of man hunt and from dodging her attacks.
"Ha… Ha," he panted, catching his breath. "Not bad"
The woman wasn\'t much strong but his exhausted body could only put up so much strength. He wasn\'t on his prime. He hadn\'t expected the women to hold out so good.
"Not as much as you"
The woman could only smirk knowing better than anyone that her death was near. She was a proud warrior who didn\'t mind dying on the battlefield. Didn\'t she prepare herself to die far before she had arrived on this stage? Even if she dies she would have no regrets.
\'At least I gave it my 100%\'
It was just her bad luck that there was someone stronger than herself!
Basile was no fool either. Seeing that Steve and the woman were at their lowest shape after the battle, he decided that this was the best moment to strike and kill them. He turned towards the woman thinking that she would be an easier first target.
With a leap in the air, he slashed his sword towards the woman.
*Slash*
But Steve came in between his charges. Steve\'s body still had some strength to move. He latched onto his sword as it drew an arc in the air. The sword was sharp enough to rupture his skin as his blood trickled along its blade.
Basile stared into Steve\'s eyes. His deep black eyes seemed to attack his soul with the killing intent it released.
"No stealing my foe," Steve claimed in a husk voice clearly tired from the battle. He had pushed himself too hard.
Steve pulled the sword from Basile, Basile\'s hand already turning wobbly from fear. And without any notice, Steve impaled Basile\'s heart with that very sword.
[Kill +1]
[Kills: 49]
The woman raised her brow. The sudden attack had caused her to latch onto her breath. She could finally let out a sigh of relief now that the attacker was dead.
"Thank you for saving me," she said.
But the very next moment, Steve\'s punch landed on her gut.
"Welcome," he whispered, his lips making minimal movement.
"Ugh," she screamed in pain as she collapsed to the ground now plain dead.
In her dying moments, she was once again reminded of how fucked up her situation was and how no one could be trusted nor relied upon in this dog eat dog world. She was reminded that the only reason that Steve saved her was probably so that he could get another +1 on his kill count.
[Kill +1]
And that was truly the case. If Basile would have killed her the +1 would have gone to him instead of Steve.
[Kills: 50]
Steve dragged his tired body as he pulled his injured feet. With the adrenaline levels going down in his body and the pain coming back, he could finally feel the after-effects of the battle. He had to now move while hiding himself from the giant armadillos as he was no longer in a position to fight.

"What? You found Basile dead?" Lewis exclaimed. He was prepared for the death of his teammates but certainly not so soon.
"Who killed him?" He wrapped his arms around his chest as he tried to cool himself down. A good leader should maintain his calm.
"I am not quite sure but when I reached there I found two dead bodies, one of Basile and the other of an unknown woman." The third scout said unfazed. He was probably the only one out of the three who was not a fool.
Lewis was lost deep in thought as to how his situation could have ended like that?
\'Did they fight and end each other\'s lives? Or were they sucked dry of blood by fighting monsters?\'
Lewis wasn\'t happy with the situation. If he wanted his teammates to die it would be rather himself who would like to kill them than others. At least he would be getting the kill count.
